as soon as we are in the cloth room let's create a new simulation and set the name of your choice and set the drape frames to 5. this a simple model and it is fitting rather good the figure, so a drape of 5 frames will be enough
STEP 18
select the obj file to clotify and than click the clotify button in the room menu.
STEP 19
the pop up window will ask the obj to clotify, verify that the name is the one of the obj you want to clotify and click clotify.
STEP 20
the obj it is now a cloth and need a gometry to collide with so press the collide against,, button in the lateral menu of the cloth room
STEP 21
in the pop up windows press AddRemove and another pop up windows will appear.
STEP 22
in this window you can select the figure that will collide with the cloth, in our case it is helena a morph of the V4 character from DAZ studio. you can select in this window multiple body to collide with. If you want your cloth to collide with all the model of the scene just click the Universe on top of the window. Please note that as much sophisticate is you scene as long will be your simulation time.
STEP 23
the collision it is settled up and poser insert for the various parameters the default value. Note that also the start draping from 0 pose is checked, but if your figure at frame 1 is settled to 0 you can uncheck it.
STEP 24
we changed the collision offset to 0.65, please note that this parameter define the gap you will have between the cloth and the figure, we reduced also the static and the dynamic friction, this two parameters as already explained refer to the body of the figure not to the cloth. as soon as you finish set the parameter open the Simulation Setting window (step 17) and click calculate drape. the result of the drape is shown below.
STEP 25
the dynamic control panel it is settled to default parameter. here we will need to play a little with parameter to obtain the best result of the simulation, for the moment anyway we will not change anything and we will try the simulation to see the effect on the model, in the base of the result we will decide which parameter to modify.
STEP 26
here is the result of the drape calculation
STEP 27
move the animation slide forward up to frame 12
STEP 28
pose your figure in the pose you prefer
STEP 29
as at the end of the simulation our cloth was a little static, so not really realistic we will change same parameters. we will increase a little the fold resistance, to 10 it will make the cloth polygon more rigid. we want the cloth to bend over it self easily so the shear resistance decreased to 20. to make the fabric a little more elastic we will set the stretch resistance to 25. we will increase instead the friction of the cloth against the body, static and dynamic to 0,75 and 0,51. please note that to calculate the friction you have to check the collision field on top of the panel. ones we finish the parameter change let calculate the simulation again. the result it is shown below.
STEP 30
As you see the dress it is sliding up a little on the legs of the figure as they are bend. making more realistic the simulation of the cloth. At this stage if you like the behavior of you cloth you can go to the library and in the props tab, in the directory of your choice, and save this cloth as a smart prop. next time you will load it from your library all the setting you set for this model will be charged again and also the scale of the model will be proper.
STEP 31
here we show a basic render of the model we already transformed in smart prop. as you see there are some defects on the geometry that anyway can be solved using displacement map and bump map. But this is an argument that will be discuss in the future.
