Loading Figure in the poser scene![]() from the poser library load the character in the current scene, set the frame to 1 and set the figure to the 0 pose. as in the figure.
Load the smart prop![]() In your Props library choose a dynamic cloth to fit to your figure and double click, or drag into the scene.
if this cloth is a smart prop it will fit automatically to your figure Move to the cloth room![]() as soon as the cloth is loaded in the scene we will move to the cloth room, the tab on top of the window.
Creating a new simulation![]() in the cloth room to start the process to drape the prop to the figure you need to create a new simulation, clicking the button new simulation as shown in the figure
setting up the simulation![]() After give a name to the simulation in our case we choose the same name of the cloth to be draped you can set the range of the simulation and the steps, for most cloth the step of 2 is enough to get a good result. For more complicated cloth will be necessary to increase this parameter.
The drape frames is necessary to establish the duration of the draping process, also here as complex is your cloth as higher should be the number. for the model we choose 5 it is enough to get a good drape. Clothify the smart prop![]() the prop you loaded into the scene it is still a 3D model without any property unless you are clothify this.
So select the prop from the menu aside the figure and after after press clothify. Collision Settings![]() press the collide against button
collision windows![]() Collision Offset: set to 0,65 for this model, it is the distance between the cloth and the figure during all the simulation
Collision Depth: =1 this parameter it is setting the dept of the collision, all the polygon that are below this parameter are moved up till the collision offset. as the prop generally is a surface all the polygon are getting on the offset depending on the length of the draping frames. Static Friction: =0,05 this parameter by default is = 0,5. for this model instead we settled up to 0,05, attention, this is the friction generated by the body you are choosing in the next screen, not the friction of the cloth. Dynamic Friction =0,01 same as the previous parameter, but default here is 0,1. draping from 0 pose unchecked if the figure is already posed to 0 Ignore hand, feet or head if you do not want this part of the body to interfere with the simulation. Please note that multiple object will need to be settled each trough the cascade menu collision windows![]() it this pop up windows you are choosing the body of the figure that should collide with the cloth.
in the sub menu you will find all the body parts of the figure checked as soon as you check the character, but if in the previous windows you checked for example ignore head collision, the head and all the sub parts will remain unchecked. Please note that you can check multiple body for the collision. if you want your cloth to collide with all the scene just check the universe at the top of the three. cloth parameters![]() as we already explain before for a smart prop generally all the parameter are already fixed up by the developer of the model.
anyway we will explain a little the meaning of each parameter : fold resistance is the force needed to bend the polygon, for example for cotton 5 is rather good, but for a more resistant fabric like the denim for example a parameter from 25 to 40 can be more suitable. the shear resistance instead is the capacity of the cloth to bend over itself default is 50 also good for cotton, for soft material should be reduced for harder should be increased. stretch dumping is the force that the cloth use to try, during the simulation to maintain it's original shape. cloth density is the weight of the cloth for a square centimeter, as high this parameter is as higher is the effect of the gravity on the cloth, this parameter should be settled accordingly because if the stretch resistance is too low you cloth will enlarge for the gravity effect. the friction mentioned in this part instead, cloth, static and dynamic, are the friction that the cloth will have against the geometry of the collision setting. Draping the cloth![]() we go back to the simulation setting windows and we will press calculate drape in the bottom of the pop up menu
Draping result![]() after the five frames of the drape the shirt will appear fitted to the figure.
Pose your Figure![]() to pose your figure just slide to the desired frame the timeline slide and pose your figure. we settled the pose frame to 5.
when you finish your posing just press the calculate simulation and wait that the simulation will be completed. Simulation result![]() after 10 frames has passed out in the simulation you can already stop it and the result is that the cloth has followed the body of the character with a very realistic dynamic sequence.
